What is Thrive's position on various treatments and medication?
Although Ed and I both have many experiences with ADHD, we realize that ADHD does not affect every family or child the same. Our goal is not to tell parents how to raise their children. We simply want to support parents in finding the information that best suits their goals and desires for their children and their family so that they can do more than survive.
Is an official ADHD diagnosis needed for my child to come to Thrive?
NO. We accept any child that falls within the continuum of services offered and the scope of current staff qualifications. Many kids without dignosis experience the same difficulties common to the ADHD diagnostic description.
Does it matter whether or not my child takes medication for ADHD?
NO. A large percentage of kids respond positively to medication, but some don't. Our program supports families in their decision to choose what is best for their children. Your child can still benefit from the program medicated or not!
Frequently Asked Questions
Can siblings of my ADHD child come to Thrive also?
YES. We focus on improving peer and sibling relationships and any child is welcome as long as we feel confident after an intake evaluation that we can meet the child's needs with success. This does include, but is certainly not limited to, kids with learning diabilities and kids with high functioning Autism, etc. Call for a free consultation 806-777-9259.
Why a separate day care setting for ADHD kids?
All kids should have the chance to THRIVE! In mainstream systems ADHD kids are often misunderstood and as a result have many negative experiences. In a serparate setting with staff who understand and appreciate your child's uniqueness, children have a chance to stand out for their strengths and to receive much more positive feedback while building positive peer relationships and ADHD management skills.
What types of kids will my child be with at Thrive?
We accept a range of kids, not just ADHD, although that is where our expertise lies. We do have an intake process and, depending on the severity of behaviors, admit children on a case by case basis in an attempt to help children but also protect Thrive kids from those who might need a more restrictive environment, such as a residential treatment center.
